Class A CDL Test

Take your driving career to the next level with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. With a Class A CDL, you’ll be qualified to drive vehicles with a trailer featuring two or more axles. The combined gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of Class A vehicles must be more than 26,001 pounds. The only limitation is that the vehicle being towed must have a GVWR of more than 10,000 pounds. Such vehicles include tractor-trailers; truck and vehicle combinations such as double and triple trailers; tanker carriers and those transporting livestock. In short, drivers with Class A CDLs are hauling the big stuff.

The Class A CDL Test consists of a skills test. The skills test, is done behind the wheel and allows you to showcase that you are ready to take on the duties associated with operating a Class A vehicle. There are three parts to the skills test: pre-trip inspection, basic maneuverability and road test.

To qualify for a Class A CDL, you must be at least 18 years old, pass a physical examination and a vision test. On your exam day, be sure to bring a valid form of ID, your Social Security card and documentation that you passed the vision and medical tests.
